2020 Advent Series

Most of us are very familiar with these verses as every Christmas season they are read, taught, preached and even sung in the wonderous composition of Handel’s Messiah. Perhaps you can hear a full orchestra playing the familiar tune in your head now. This passage of Scripture was written over 700 years before the birth of Christ, and yet it gives us four names for the One that would be coming: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. For the Israelites awaiting the Messiah, these names gave them a glimpse of their Savior, long before Jesus was born. The question for us is, how do these ancient names have bearing on our lives today? During this Advent Season, we will be taking a look at each of the names given to describe the Messiah in this verse, and how that can help us to experience hope, love, joy, and peace this holiday season.
