The Necessity of Confession

May 20, 2010 | 0 Comments

During our Sunday morning worship services we regularly have a time for confession of sin, usually personal, but sometimes both personal and corporate. While no one has ever called me on it, I think some people may wonder why it is necessary for us to confess our sin to a God who already knows everything about us. To that I would say two things: 1) Jesus calls us to it (Matthew 6:12) as well as many other passages of Scripture (i.e., Proverbs 28:13, Psalm 32, Psalm 51, etc.); 2) to confess something to someone usually means telling them something that they already know to be true. In other words, it usually involves a "coming clean" rather than informing the offended party of something of which they were not already aware. And, as we know from Scripture, God is fully aware of everything.

In this blog post, Kevin DeYoung elaborates a bit further on our need to confess our sin to God. As always, your feedback and questions are welcomed and appreciated.
